Welcome to 2011 and a new year with Westnet.

We’d like to begin out first newsletter for 2011 by extending our thoughts to those who’ve been affected by the recent flood tragedies. If you’ve been affected or know a Westnet customer who has, this month we provide information about the relief options we can provide.

In the world of Westnet, we’re excited to have launched our new no-contract mobile phone plans launched towards the end of last year. This new product is getting people talking already, with heaps of included calls, texts and data – all you need to do is bring your mobile.

A New Year also means new giveaways, so we’ve pulled together passes to a great upcoming movie release, plus tickets to see NBL matches right around the country. Good luck!

Please note that for 2011, you can look forward to receiving the Westnet newsletter on the last Thursday of each month. Thanks for reading and here’s to a big year ahead.

Dear Westnet Members,

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

However, Christmas cheer can quickly turn sour when online scammers are on the prowl, so this month we bring you up to speed on an email scam received by number of Westnet members and the steps you can take to protect your private information. We also walk you through the way to pick the best password to ward off would-be identity thieves.

It’s better to give than to receive, so we’re getting into the spirit and dishing out some Westnet cheer with passes to see Meet the Parents: Little Fockers and Burlesque – both out soon. Plus we’ve tickets to see some great NBL action in the coming months!

And with that we round up the final newsletter for 2010. From everyone here at Westnet, we’d like to wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday period.

Here’s to a fantastic 2011!

This time of year the events roll in thick and fast. At Westnet, we kept a close eye on all the action in the Delhi Commonwealth Games, turned our call centre ghoulish for Halloween before huddling around the television to cheer on our respective tips in the Melbourne Cup.

Next up is Remembrance Day – so be sure to take time on the 11th hour of the 11th day of this month to reflect on those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice – and before long it will be time get the tree up as Christmas approaches.

While we’re on the subject, this month’s newsletter includes details of Westnet’s business hours over the festive season. Don’t worry – we’ll be away from the office on the big day only; with the phones manned for the rest of the yuletide/new year period so there’ll always be someone here to lend a hand should you need it.

If you’ve been to our website lately, you’d have noticed it’s received a fresh lick of paint and is looking spiffier than ever. This month we run through some of the new site features we hope you’ll enjoy, plus we take a closer look at shaping and how it’s the wallet-friendly alternative for when you’ve used up your monthly quota.

And what’s a Westnet newsletter without giveaways? This month we’ve got passes to two upcoming cinemas releases to give away, so be sure to get your name in the draw.

See you next month!

Dear Westnet Member,

Spring has sprung and I’ve personally bid good riddance to the winter chill.

All eyes forward now as the track pants and jumpers are slowly packed away and I eagerly await a warm change in the weather. Speaking of changes, there are of few of those going on around Westnet at the moment – for the better, of course.

As you might have already heard, Westnet recently unveiled a revamped suite of plans with some very impressive new quotas. This month we take a closer look at the plans now available, including the biggest plan we’ve ever offered our members.

There’s more change on the horizon, too, with a new-look Westnet website in the pipeline. It’s been heads down at the Westnet office recently as we work to deliver a cleaner and more user friendly website for members and newcomers alike. Take a peek at what’s to come and look forward to a spiffier-looking Westnet website soon.

Three big movie giveaways round off this month’s newsletter, with tickets to see Eat Pray Love, Dinner for Schmucks and The Town up for grabs. Get your entries in and good luck.

With a Federal election just around the corner, there’s been a whole lot of promising, denying and baby kissing going on lately. While both sides have been spruiking policies, we watched with great interest last week as the National Broadband Network (NBN) briefly took centre stage.

A couple of month’s back we brought you some background information on the NBN and the advancements in broadband on the horizon for one and all. This month we bring you an update on the Government’s plans for its initial mainland rollout.

If you’re big on staying connected, you might know of a few WiFi hotspots in your area where you have access to wireless internet. If you’re not familiar with this technology, we take a closer look at how you might be able to take advantage of a handy web connection the next time you’re out and about.

This month we’ve also managed to squeeze in three great movie giveaways, with passes to see Tomorrow When the War Began, The Other Guys and Going the Distance up for grabs. Get your entries in and good luck!

Hope you’re braving the last of the winter weather; here’s to sunshine on the horizon!

Dear Westnet Member,

There have been a few bleary eyes around the Westnet offices over the last couple of weeks as the football fanatics amongst us tackle all the late night World Cup action. As this month’s Newsletter makes its way to your inbox, Spain is preparing to meet the Netherlands in the deciding match – so vuvuzelas at the ready!

Speaking of the ‘world game’, this month’s Westnet Newsletter makes mention of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which for the first time is available in 3D. If you’re unfamiliar with 3D TV and the technology on the horizon, we take a quick look at what’s being touted as the ‘next big thing’ in home entertainment.

We also bring you news of a Westnet win at the recent ATA state awards, plus some lucky winners in Westnet Hosting’s ‘win a website’ competition. We’ve also got loads of passes to a couple of great new movie releases up for grabs – so make sure you get your name in the draw.

Just finally, we’ve received word of a few spam emails landing in Members’ inboxes claiming to be from Westnet. The emails request a reply with your Westnet username and password to avoid account deactivation.

We’d like to reassure Members that these emails are not legitimate as Westnet never asks for such account details via email. We ask that you delete any such emails immediately, or give our Support Team a call on 1300 786 068 if you’re unsure.

Until next month…

Dear Westnet Members,

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Well here we are – midway through the year with winter officially upon us. During the height of summer this year I was willing on the winter weather, but now it’s here I have to admit I’m starting to long for the return of shorts-and-singlet heat. I guess I’m a little hard to please!

Anyway, on to the Westnet Newsletter for June…

Fresh off our look at computer viruses and other online nasties a couple of months ago, this weekend marks the beginning of National Cyber Security Week 2010. The Federal Government is again encouraging internet users to show due diligence while online, so this month we take a closer look at the steps you can take to protect yourself on the web.
If you run a business or are thinking about boosting your online presence, you’re in luck! Westnet Hosting has just kicked off an exciting competition that could see you win a spiffy new website valued at nearly $1000. Take a closer look for more details on how you can be in the running.

While we’re on the subject of competitions, we’ve also got a stack of tickets to two upcoming movie releases to give away, so make sure you get yourself into the draw to win an in-season double pass.

Enjoy the read and see you next month!
